We continue working with resonator bells from Unit 2 and take the beginning music notation that we learned in the last unit to the next level! Students learn to read quarter and eighth note rhythms on a two-line staff using repetition to take their first steps to music literacy. We explore music notation, music literacy, and listening comprehension while surrounded by the beautiful tableau of the Hawaiian ocean. Our poem “Here in the Ocean” introduces our students to a wide variety of Hawaiian ocean life, including their state fish, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Say that three times fast!
